The magnificent 7-mile of sand stretching from Amble to Cresswell, known as Druridge Bay, is a paradise for surfers, cyclists and nature lovers, offering a quiet beach, several rock pools, sand dunes and an 100-acre freshwater lake bordered by meadows and woodland. During World War II, the bay was considered a possible landing place for German troops, and you can still see some anti-tank blocks and pill boxes built for defense purposes.

Located in the northern part of Northumberland, in the village of the same name, Chillingham Castle started out as a monastery in the second half of the 12 century. In 1298, King Edward I stayed in the building, on his way to the battle of Falkirk where he defeated William Wallace. On this occasion, a glazed window was specially added. In 1344, King Edward III issued a "License to Crenellate", which allowed the owners to build battlements, thus turning the castle into a fully fortified, quadrangular structure, with towers at its corners.
